Because you’re curious about what happens when someone steps out of the frame and starts living for herself.

Artist Statement

I’m a single mother and a survivor of domestic violence and the suicide of my spouse as well as a survivor of my own achievements. For most of my life I built things: a career, a portfolio, an identity that looked like living the dream from the outside. Then the whole thing got swept away and I was forced into survival mode. I unconsciously started recreating the life that wasn’t serving me because I wasn’t comfortable standing still and asking myself what I really wanted. This newsletter is what happened when I stood still and prioritized my own healing.

I write about the unraveling of that old identity, finding safety in my own body, and the new, truer, self that is emerging. Some of it is about parenting alone. Some of it is about money, and the strange things it does and doesn’t buy. Some of it is about the spiritual work I used to bore me when my Dad talked about it but feels like a lifeline from where I’m at now. I am committed to speaking my truth.

So what is Sovereignty?

Sovereignty is reclaiming my voice and my vessel. Sovereignty is the confidence to believe a better life is possible and the hope that there might be others in the world who feel the same way but being prepared to go it alone.

I invite you to subscribe if my thoughts or voice meet you someplace true.

Sovereign dispatches from a small bubble of peace I created for myself and my kids. Because the pain of staying silent has eclipsed the pain of speaking out.
